US Central Command carried out its tenth consecutive night of strikes on Iran late Monday, widening a war that has now killed at least three American service members in five days. Al Jazeera reported the strikes targeted Iranian military command centers, air defense sites and missile launch positions tied to attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it retaliated with ground-to-ground missiles aimed at US HIMARS systems stationed at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. Two Greek-owned oil tankers were struck in the strait on Monday, and the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency said a separate vessel caught fire off Oman's port city of Limah after being hit by an unidentified projectile. The crew abandoned ship and was recovered by a tug boat.
The Pentagon named two soldiers killed in Friday and Saturday strikes on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan: 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas. Both served in Army air defense artillery regiments. CBS News reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a missile "got through" the base's defenses. A third soldier remains missing, with unidentified remains found at the site pending confirmation. A separate service member died in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of an Iranian drone.
Yemen's Houthi rebels announced Monday that they would impose a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, retaliating for a Saudi-led coalition strike on Sanaa International Airport. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the ban on shipping to Saudi Arabia would take effect immediately, though he did not specify how it would be enforced. The move threatens a truce that has held since 2022 and raises the prospect of renewed attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
President Trump warned Sunday that Iranian attacks on US personnel would be "paid back many times over." Iran's president, Masoud Pezeshkian, said Monday that his country is now in a "full-scale war" with the United States.
This follows Sunday's ninth night of strikes, when a third American death was confirmed and both sides enforced rival blockades on shipping through Hormuz.
